Four Great Things to See and Do in Phuket
Phuket
Phuket, often regarded as the 'Pearl of the South' is the largest island in Thailand. This tropical haven has an abundance of beautiful sandy beaches, diverse wildlife and rich rainforest lagoons. Here are just a few of the great things you can do in Phuket.
Old Phuket Town
This former Provincial capital is like no other in the whole country; featuring beautifully preserved temples, shrines and small local business, portraying towns in the country before the age of industry. It features many western style mansions and grand houses built by the barons of the tin boom over 100 years ago; lined with rich tropical palm trees and forest. The area is small enough to be able to stroll around in just an afternoon. The mass of various restaurants feature cuisines from all around the world, so there's no need to take a picnic.
Muay Thai Boxing
The national style of boxing is one of the most popular spectator sports in Thailand, witness the passion of the fighters battling each other for the glory in a vast yet truly imitate show filled with loyal fans. The sport has grown considerably in popularity worldwide with similar styles such as UFC proving successful in the western world. Each bout promises to be a boxing match like no other, with all areas of the body considered as a fair target to be struck by the opponent, truly electrifying to watch.
Phuket Fanta Sea Show
Witness an experience like no other. The Fanta Sea is a night time theme park that is split up into three sections, a shopping centre in the festival village, a world class eatery in the Golden Kinnaree Buffet restaurant and the main event, the Fanta Sea Show Witness trapeze artists, performing elephants and a cast of hundreds of actors and animals coming together to produce a spectacle that is out of this world.
Phang Nga Bay
This beautiful stretch of dotted island is just north east of Phuket, take yourself on a boat trip through the Emerald green waters past the breathtaking limestone cliffs. As well spotting the extensive range of wildlife, there's also a chance to see James Bond Island. The island, actually called Koh Ping-gan, was jetted to stardom when it featured in the movie 'The Man with the Golden Gun', and has proved to be a extremely popular tourist spot year after year.

Understanding Phuket's Heritage
Understanding Phuket's Heritage
Phuket
Phuket is a paradise, not only because of its spectacular beaches and magnificent temples. It is a tourist haven because the island is like a gateway to a better understanding of the Thai culture. There are so many places in Phuket which will feed the mind of everyone visiting it.
Phuket has a very colourful and rich history. It gives home to a lot of legacies manifested on the different edifices around the province. One remarkable site that exudes the strong charm of Phuket's past is the Old Phuket Town.
Shining with its own unique personality, the Old Phuket Town displays different Sino-Portuguese architectural masterpieces which can be dated back to the glorious days of the province. These structures are steadfastly preserved for people to marvel on.
Around the town, there are different shrines, shop houses, cafes, printing shops and museums, which are certainly lovely. It creates a very picturesque view, displaying a play in colours and designs.
The Old Phuket Town is active all throughout the day. During mornings, monks can be seen strolling around the place taking alms from the residents. At noon, the town bustles with its daily routines, including businesses and touristic activities. At night, the city comes alive with all of the extravagant nightlife that it has. Some striking parts of the Old Phuket Town are the Thalang Road and Soi Romani.
To expose oneself to understanding the rich and impressive culture of the island, travelling to Phuket should include a trip to the Phuket Cultural Center in the itinerary.
Located humbly in the compound of the Rajabhat Institute of Phuket, the museum displays an intensive collection of items to show the evolution of lifestyles of the people in Phuket, and the rest of Thailand.
One attraction in the area is the miniature houses which show the different architectural preferences of the Thai people in the past. The museum also displays items which explain the beliefs, culture and languages of the early settlers in Phuket.
Other items featured in the museum include tin-mining items and old ceramics, from China and the Netherlands. Visitors are welcome in the museum. However, all pieces of information are in Thai so a guide will most likely be needed whenin touring the museum.
It is interesting to dig down deep into the history of Phuket because the past honed the present, and in the museum, it is explained how the island became the beauty that it is now.
Therefore, there should be no hesitation when deciding to visit the impressive island of Phuket. After all, it is not that difficult to plan a trip to the island. Flights are always available and Phuket hotels are always ready to provide accommodation.

Honda CRV Test Drive in Thailand
Honda CRV Test Drive in Thailand

The New High-Tech Honda Accord with Euro Looks
Is it a BMW? Maybe the Audi A-4? Or the VW Passat? Le Peugeut? No! It's the new Honda Accord! Acc-ord! The name reminds me of French d'Accord! (Agree, OK in English).
And I agree. The new 8th generation Honda Accord looks sleek, dynamic, sporty and has a lower and a wider track for that solid, planted feel. Look at the new low slung, chromed angular grill, the new cool, clear projector type headlights and the muscular pronounced wheels arches housing the 17 inch alloy wheels.
The side view also reveals new higher waistline matching the perfectly raked roof line. The rear break light cluster is very BMW'ish. The new Honda Accord takes on asharp European design. Perhaps, the best looking Honda ever.
Furthermore the new Honda Accord has been upsized. The floor space is now lower and the wheel base is longer to provide more space, especially for the back seat riders. There's enough room back there to be comfortable, even when front seats are far back. The luxurious leather upholstered cabin environment is quietandvibration free thanks to the ANC (Active Noise Control) system and is a very comfortable place to be.
Our demo, the Honda 2.4 EL (NAVI) the top of 2.4 litre models fully loaded with all the goodies: dual-zone air-conditioning, front power seats with memory, (and lumbar massage for the driver) electric rear sunshade, cruise control and a sporty Formula One inspired paddle shifter on the steering wheel.
But it was the communication in-car infotainment centre that caught my attention. A real-time IT package: hands-free Bluetooth, CD/MP3/WMA (auxiliary input jack for connecting portable music players), and a premium sound system with a subwoofer. Only the high speed internet "Google" connection was missing!
And the "navigator" the Honda Accord GPS connected to a 40 gigabyte hard disc. For the music fans that's 3.000 songs. Enough music for Phuket to Bangkok back and fourth! The Accord 2.4 EL "NAVI" is probably is the best Navigator in the market.
The navigation screen is large and easy to read with a user friendly joystick and command wheel. No more maps everything is click-on: the highways, (byways) expressways, the u-turns and the bypasses, the attractions, the "aroy-aroy" restaurants, the hospitals and the police stations. When the car is stationary you can watch DVD movies or your digital "home movies" and when reversing it switches automatically to R mode: parking camera. A real time parking movie.
Everything connected to the on-board info-centre including your pertinent driving information: fuel consumption, average speed, distance to destination etc.
For the driver there is lot's of buttons to push on center console and the steering wheels. Every car should have multifunction steering wheel. Always two hands on the wheel.
Under the bonnet (the hood), the main focus is the new, second-generation Honda i-VTEC in-line four cylinder 2.4 litre 5-speed motor packing 180 horsepower. More powerful than the previous and more frugal. During our test-drive we managed 13 kilometer per litre on the highway and about 9 liter per kilometer in the city. And the good news. The new Accord is E 20 compatible (alcohol & gasoline). That's 20 percent Johnny Walker Red or Stolichnaya and 80 percent unleaded petrol (gasoline) 91or 95.
Honda Accord's four-wheel independent suspension features a double-wishbone design in front and a new multilink setup in back. On the road, the Accord is taut without being punishing, and the sedan recovers quickly without any extra bobbing after hitting a bump or dip in the road.
The safety package is comprehensive with dual i-SRS front driver and side airbags including side curtain airbags with OPD (occupant position detect ant) system. Plus VSA vehicle stability assist combined with ABS and EDB making those slippery curves less challenging.
In conclusion the new Accord feels refined and solid and is perfectly suited for Thailand highway cruising or urban driving. Just perfect for a Bangkok-Phuket, Bangkok-Samiu 8-9 hour long haul, if only the fuel, E20 gasohol had been cheaper!
Latest version of the Accord is ready to take on the prestige imported rivals from Germany. And really good news for potential buyers is that all the improvements and additional IT features haven't pushed up the cost.
The sticker price for the new Honda Accord 2.4 EL (NAVI) is 1.6 million THB. The two litre base Accord model is priced 1.2 million THB and the flagship Honda Accord 3.5 G (NAVI) V6 sets you back a cool 2.8 million THB.

Market View - Phuket Residential (Villa and Condominiums)
Market View - Phuket Residential (Villa and Condominiums)
Phuket
Q4 2009 saw a continued recovery in the Phuket property market. Sales of resort property improved but were still at low levels and mainly concentrated in a limited number of projects. The level of built but unsold inventory of completed condominium and villa units is low.
Prices for built property have remained relatively stable with few examples of forced sale situations. Purchasers are cautious and are focusing on projects promoted by known developers where there has been visible construction progress. We believe that demand is recovering.
Selected Newly Completed Condominium Projects
Ocean Palms Phuket
Developed by West Haven Developments Co., Ltd., Ocean Palms is situated approximately 500 meters from Bang Tao Beach. The project has 66 units including studio, 1-bedroom, 2-bedroom, and penthouse units.
Mandala Condominium (Block C)
Developed by Baan Mandala Condominiums Co., Ltd, Mandala Condominium is located near Bang Tao Beach. The first block of 8 apartments was completed in Q4 2009. This block consists of 6 apartment and 2 penthouses. The whole project is a collection of 24 apartments with private pools.
Selected Newly Completed Villa Projects
Baan Thai Surin Hill
Developed by Surin Hill Development Company the villa development is located in Surin. It comprises 5 units and it was launched in 2005.
Baan Yamu Phase 3
Developed by Phuket Prime Property Co., Ltd. the villa development is located in Cape Yamu. It comprises 20 units and offers a freehold ownership title. The project was launched in 2008.
Overall Phuket has come through the combination of the global financial crisis and Thailand's political problems relatively unscathed. The opportunity and challenge is for developers to identify target markets and create properties that match those requirements. Potential buyers will be more cautious and will want to be confident about ability of developers to deliver product both in terms of their financial resources and development expertise.

Teenagers' English Summer Camp - Leisure & Study
Teenagers' English Summer Camp - Leisure & Study
Phuket
A vacation in Phuket Island is indubitably a wonderful idea to appreciate the white sand beaches and clear waters of Thailand in family. While adults are taking a rest, teenagers certainly want more fun activities of their own. An English summer camp in a reputable International school in Phuket is a great possibility as teenage children can have fun being with other youths while their parents enjoy more freedom.
These summer camps are usually for non-English speakers who learn English in addition to the practice of sports like football, swimming, tennis and golf. There are of course other options oriented more on sports for native English speaker teenagers. Phuket is the ideal place in Thailand for a summer camp. All the teens that participate in a camp are delighted and do not regret any minute to be there.
These camps are very educative with lessons and activities every day. When the children arrive at the International Phuket airport, a few teachers are present to welcome and drive them to the school by van. There are a few very big facilities with wide green areas including football pitches and several indoor halls for other sports. There are also swimming pools, generally a small pool for kindergarten and primary children, and a large pool for secondary children.
A summer camp is not only a solution to occupy children during a family trip, but a unique experience for young people who can be sent alone to Phuket and be very well taken care of by the school organizing the summer camp. There, they can meet friends of their age of different nationalities and have fun lessons like cooking in addition of the language classes. It is certainly a wonderful learning experience.
A camp generally has 30 students for a two weeks camp. During these summer camps, the teenagers have English classes normally in the morning and evening provided in classrooms with different proficiency levels. The classes are punctuated with snacks and drinks every two hours, and sport activities like basketball, badminton or football are organized in the afternoon.
Some activities for teenagers can also be arranged for shorter terms like a week or on a daily basis in some smaller schools or organizations. Kayaking, yachting, snorkeling, scuba diving, jet skiing and banana boat riding are great water sports that teenagers will enjoy on their own. And for those teenagers who want to stay with their parents, there are always a multitude of fun activities that can be enjoyed together as a family.
Participating in a English summer camp in Phuket can be a memory of a lifetime for many teenagers who will go back home with new friendships made. Phuket has top international facilities and schools that can accommodate parents and teenagers alike.

Where to Eat in Phuket
Where to Eat in Phuket
Phuket
A lot has been written about where to eat in Phuket, but for the most part, it's difficult to distinguish genuine restaurant reviews from paid advertorials and favorable articles. There's no doubt that Phuket has a diverse range of places to eat. From the most basic of street food right through to the most lavish of eateries, Phuket has a lot to offer even the most discerning of foodies.
Thailand is famous for its street food and though you won't find the same kind of choice as you can in Bangkok, Phuket still has street food in abundance. You could spend days arguing about which street vendor does the best noodles or kao man gai, but ultimately, half the fun off eating off the street is in trying a variety of places and seeing which ones are best.
As a general rule of thumb for street food in Phuket, if you pass a place that is absolutely heaving, you can rest assured that that is one place worth eating at. The locals all have their favorite restaurants and they will eat at them regularly, often every day. Many street vendors at least have some pictures of food on their carts for people who can't read Thai, so if you aren't sure what or how to order, just point. If all else fails, point at someone else's dish and see what you end up with.
There are plenty of interesting restaurants in Phuket. One of the best is Natural Restaurant in Phuket Town. The place looks as if it's alive, with knick knacks everywhere. Walking through the restaurant is like climbing a tree house. Natural Restaurant is one of the best places in Phuket to sample the delights of Thai food.
One of Patong's most popular restaurants is Coyote on the beach road. This restaurant serves up some of the best Mexican grub on the island. It's a little pricey compared to eating local food, but for a special occasion it's worth splashing out for.
There is some debate as to which restaurant does the best pizza in Phuket. There is a lot of choice, but one that stands out from the crowd is Toto's near the Laguna entrance in Cherng Talay. There's something about the sauce that keeps people coming back for more.
For something lavish, the restaurant at Indigo Pearl resort in Nai Yang does the best Sunday brunch on the island with an unrivalled selection of food to choose from. Although it's pricey, it's definitely worth a visit to sample some fine cuisine.
Whatever your favorite food, you'll be bound to find it in Phuket, but there's no harm in being adventurous and trying out some of the many types of fare from around the world that the island has to offer.

Phuket Weather: What to Do When It Rains
Phuket Weather: What to Do When It Rains
Phuket
So it has been raining all night and you are sad looking out your hotel window looking at the torrential rain wondering what to do with your rainy day in Phuket. Below are a few options that are not affected by the rain and some that make it much better.
1. Quad biking - probably one for the guys but the rain makes quad biking much, much more fun, with puddles to splash through and mud to slide on. Yes you will get very wet and very muddy but it will be worth it i assure you!
2. Spa Treatment - probably one for the girls whilst their partners are out quad biking! Get into the dry and relax with a spa treatment. There are a million and one treatments available and all at very cheap prices compared to western spas.
3 - Shopping - Always a favorite rainy day activity wherever you are. Phuket has a number of indoor shopping centers with underground parking so you never have to step into the rain. Central Shopping Mall, Big C, Tesco-Lotus, Ocean Plaza and Robinsons Department Store around Phuket Town or Jungceylon in Patong are all big indoor centers worth a look.
4 - bowling/laser tag/cinema - The Jungcelon in Patong has a number of indoor activities beyond shopping such as laser games or live gun shooting, 10 pin bowling and a cinema. There are also plenty of bars and restaurants so really there is something for everyone. I always head hear when the Phuket weather turns nasty!
5 - Go for a swim - most people tend to avoid the pool or the beach when there is a downpour, but swimming in the rain is great fun and because Phukets weather is hot; be it raining or not the rain makes little difference! Get wet in the rain!
